Amore Gelato: "Because Italy's too far..."
Amore Gelato is a charming, Italian-inspired frozen desserts shop located at the heart of historic Downtown Denver. At Amore, we craft our gelatos and sorbettos with love, using only the finest imported Italian ingredients and fresh, local dairy products.
Here, "fresh" is always the word of the day: we blend our exceptional flavors on site daily so each dessert served is nothing shy of pure decadence.
What is Gelato?
Gelato is a traditional, Italian frozen dessert with half the fat and fewer calories than American ice creams, yet, is more dense and has nearly double the flavor. You may ask, How is this possible? It's simple:
2). Gelato is crafted with a warmer temperature than traditional ice cream. Thus, the temperature when consumed is not as cold as other frozen desserts and your taste buds are more "alive" as a result! The warmer temperature also allows for a denser product than ice cream, and is a silky joy to the tongue.
3). Less air. Ice cream has air? Sure does; or, as the industry folks like to call it: "overrun." Overrun refers to the amount of air incorporated into the unfrozen ice cream mix during the churning/freezing process. Air in frozen desserts is perfectly normal, and directly contributes to the texture and softness of the finished product. However, over the years, commercial ice cream manufacturers started discovering the "value" of this air and began adding volumes of it to increase profits. Most commercial ice creams today are nearly 50% air.
Chew on that for a minute.
At Amore, our Gelato-- made fresh daily in our kitchen-- has half the air of most American ice creams, yielding a much fuller taste and silkier texture.
A Brief History Lesson:
o The exact beginning of gelato is unknown. What we do know is that Gelato-type desserts were eaten by the Ancient Egyptians and Romans. Before a freezing system was developed, Gelato was made using snow, milk, and fruit juices!
o Around the time of the Italian Renaissance, the ancient dessert made with snow was eventually transformed into the Gelato we know and enjoy today. Gelato didn't make it to the Americas until 1770, when the first gelateriea opened in New York!
From snow-milk and fruit during ancient times, to the Italian Renaissance, to 18th Century New York...to Amore Gelato in historic Downtown Denver- we're serving you only the finest, traditional Italian-style gelato, hand-crafted daily!
What is Sorbetto?
Sorbetto is Italian for sorbet; a delicate frozen dessert. The base is primarily comprised of fruit, sugars and water, offering a healthier alternative to many frozen desserts on the market.
At Amore, our sorbetto is the perfect light and fruity dessert to mark the ideal ending to any meal. Our sorbetto contains only 120-160 calories per serving and has less than 1 gram of fat. Not surprisingly, in Italy, sorbetto is often eaten as a meal. Stop in, have a taste, and feel refreshed.
What is Frozen Yogurt?
Our frozen yogurt is made with billions of Live & Active cultures, vastly beneficial to your immune system and digestive health. Like our other frozen desserts, Amore's "froyo" (gotta stay hip on the lingo, kids) is 100% All Natural, made with the freshest ingredients and local dairy products available. Our yogurt is extremely rich in calcium and protein, low calorie, and fat-free.*
